In the early 1990s the NAHRA (North American Hunting Retriever Association) began to allow Poodles to enter their hunt tests.
In 1998, after years of begging, pleading, and the work of many enthusiasts, the AKC finally began to allow Standard Poodles to enter their Hunt Tests for Retrievers. We are still "fighting" in an attempt to get Standard Poodles admitted to the AKC Field Trials for Retrievers events. The Hunting Retriever Club, Inc. (associated with the United Kennel Club) has always allowed Standard Poodles to enter their hunt tests. In the mid 1990s the Poodle Club of America developed the PCA sanctioned Working Certificate test and the Working Certificate Excellent test. In 2005 PCA had their first hunt test (JH and SH) and in 2006 will hold their first all-level AKC sanctioned Hunt Test associated with the National Specialty in Maryland in mid June. The Canadian Kennel Club allowed Poodles to enter their WC/I/X testing program from its inception, and in the early 1990s began to allow Standard Poodles to enter their Hunt Tests. At this time the CKC does not allow Poodles to enter their Field Trials for Retrievers. |
