Professional Trainers and Potential Mentors |

There are many professional field trial trainers and hunt test professional trainers across the country who have by now had experience with training Standard Poodles. If you find a pro in your area it is recommended that you interview the individual regarding philosophy, training methods, charges and what that pro will expect from both you and your dog. Then you should attend a few training sessions to observe that professional to see if you want to begin training with him/her. In addition there are a number of owners who are experienced in field training and one in your area may be willing to help you get started with training your dog. Many retriever clubs have training days where owners get together on a regular basis to train their dogs and there are many very experienced and helpful people in these groups. On the other hand, there are many people who profess to be experienced in dog training and are ready to offer help but they, in fact, are not very good trainers and have little actual experience or success. Please keep this in mind before you trust your dog and yourself to the hands of "just anyone".
Always train to a level beyond what you "think you need" for best success in both hunting and competition. The following organizations and individuals have a working knowledge of retriever field training for dogs and have been recommended to us but VIP and its BOD have no direct knowledge of these individuals so "buyer beware".
